I went to the Apple Store on Michigan Ave. on Saturday, November 16 to purchase a router because mine is, not only old but antiquated – a 2014 Apple Airport Extreme. I just read that Apple no longer builds routers so I felt like I was on a bind (I have been using Apple products since 1994). So I went to the store to check out what they have instead and to my horror, I found out that they didn’t have any in stock! Well, they did, but it was a three-pack Linksys Velop that would have been too much, price-wise and coverage wise. I only need one for my small apartment.
So with the disappointment, I crossed the Chicago River and took a quick walk around New East Side, the relatively new real estate development community bordered by Michigan Avenue to the west, the Chicago River to the north, Randolph Street to the south, and Lake Shore Drive to the east and where a lot of new skyscrapers are being built.
Taking a star turn is the Vista Tower, designed by Studio Gang, the same studio that designed the celebrated Aqua Tower about a block or so away. The 1191 feet tall Vista Tower is considered to be the tallest skyscraper in the world designed by a woman . It has a unique design with undulating edges in contrast to the rectilinear buildings surrounding it. Also its glass windows are tinted in different shades of blue that everywhere and anywhere you look at it, you are looking at something new. There is also a blow through floor through which strong winds will pass through to lessen the building sway.
After going around there, especially around a lovely park surrounded by the tall buildings, I took some pictures of the blue hour and went home.
