Chicago’s Pride Parade last June 30 was graced by many pols, including by the Mayor Lori Lightfoot and First Lady Amy Eschleman. Others that I noticed were former Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, the Senator from Illinois, Tammy Duckworth, my representative, Jan Schakowski (although I didn’t see her) and the Senator from California, Kamala Harris, represented by Wonder Woman.
There were over 150 groups/registered entries for the parade. At about 30 minutes before it was slated to end (with still some groups at the starting point), the parade was cancelled because of the weather – intense rain and threat of strong winds and hail. I was walking with the SEIU group (group #94) when it got stalled in Buena Park, about two blocks north of Buena on Broadway and Cuyler. It was still a long way off to the finish at Diversey and Sheridan in Lincoln Park. Because of the rain, I bailed out. I learned later from friends that five minutes after I left, the parade was called off.
Here are a few photos from the celebration. More to come.
