When I am in town during New Year’s, I have a tradition for a few years now, of photographing the community Polar Bear plunge at North Avenue that happens at noon on New Year’s Day at North Avenue Beach. This is an unsanctioned do-it-yourself plunge. People just come in, take a dip on the lake and leave.
I have been photographing this event for the last 10 years now except when I was in San Francisco a couple of times (but then I photographed the swim over there). After the event, I would then start a long walk from the beach.
This year, it was quite epic – from North Avenue to Navy Pier.
