On The Road Again

New show at the Chicago Photography Collective Pop-up Art Loop Gallery entitled “On the Road Again” showcasing the photography of Rebeka Raleigh and yours truly, Ken Ilio – opening on May 6, 2010.

I am in good company!

Rebekah holds a BA in Art History from Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.) and has finished the coursework for her MA in photojournalism from the University of Missouri (Columbia, Mo.). From 2005 to 2008, she worked at various newspapers throughout the Midwest. In Spring 2008, Raleigh left newspapers to work as a staff photographer for a travel company where she created content for 400 page catalog and taught photography workshops. After two years of traveling, Raleigh returned to her native Chicago to work as a picture editor at the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston. She is currently working on her master’s thesis, tentatively titled “The Human Gender Project,” an essay addressing the spectrum of gender presentation.

She has earned awards from several professional organizations including the Associated Press Editor’s Association, Inland Press Association, Illinois Press Association, and the Illinois Press Photographer’s Association.

For this exhibit, she will present photographs from her travels in Burma.

My part of the exhibit will be a little bit eclectic – photos from the old country, the Philippines, and a few from my travels around Australia and New Zealand, North America and Europe.

Other members of the Chicago Photography Collective will also show their works following the theme – on the road again!

Please join us … at 29 E. Madison in the loop.

This exhibit is a part of the Pop-Up Art (TM) Loop initiative of the Chicago Loop Alliance.

Chicago Photography Collective – November 15, 2009

First meet-up with the Chicago Photography Collective. I spent almost the whole day helping to tidy a vacant store-front in the Loop to make it ready for a photo exhibit that was opening the following week. The exhibit is under the auspices of PopUp Art Loop Galleries, an initiative started by the Chicago Loop Alliance to transform empty storefronts in the loop into public art galleries and to use art to draw people to the downtown area.

Among the photographers represented (right now) are Chicago luminaries such as: Amy Aiello, Patty Carroll, Lloyd DeGrane, Lauren Deutsch, Paul Elledge, Eric Futran, Ron Gordon, Karen Hoyt, Ken Ilio, Michael Jackson, David Kamba, Peter LeGrand, Paul Merideth, Paul Natkin, Leasha Overturf, Tom Palazzolo, Marcia Palazzolo, Marc PoKempner, Bruce Powell, Rebekah Raleigh, Lou Raizin, Jon Randolph, Kathy Richland, Ron Seymour, Maurice Seymour and Sandra Steinbrecher.  The group is trying to reach out to other photographers … if you know anyone who wants to be a luminary :-) , please go to the group’s website for the contact information.
