Dateline NYC December 2001

Two months and change after 9/11, I was able to visit New York City. That was a long time ago and I just found a treasure trove of pictures from that trip.

Spent two days exploring the Strawberry Fields in Central Park to pay tribute to George Harrison who had just died a day before then Ground Zero … and then Times Square.

With college classmate Noel who now blogs at NYC heart NYC.

New York City Public Library – August 20, 2007

Met up with another classmate from the Understanding Exposure Fall 2004 class with Bryan Peterson (when he was still with Better Photo). She lives in Manhattan and suggested that we go to the library on 5th Ave. to view a photography exhibit and also to photograph there.

It was a wise choice.

We also went to Bryant Park …

The Cloisters, New York – August 11, 2002

Early in my photography interest and armed with a sort of decent digital camera, I dared to venture shooting with an established photographer friend and classmate in vet school, Dr. Noel Y. Calingasan (whose photo blog is called NYC ♥ NYC).

Noel’s photography at that time had already been published in several photo magazines including in this article in Shutterbug and also in this article also in Shutterbug and therefore I was a little bit embarrassed of my amateurish attempt to be artsy while photographing with him.

Noel is such a humble, kind and giving individual and was the one who suggested to go to The Cloisters to do some shots.

Naturally, I followed him around and shot whatever he was shooting … mostly :-) .

New York City – August 10, 2002

The neon lights of Time Square

We continued playing tourists during the second day of our trip to New York City – went around the city by foot, bus and subway – from Grand Central Station to Time Square, Union Square, Chelsea and ending up in Lucky Cheng’s Restaurant in East Village where the serve staff were mostly Asian drag queens.

Ground Zero, New York City – December 2, 2001

Three months after 9/11, we were able to finally have a chance to go to New York City. I was supposed to be in New York the weekend of 9/11 as it was the 50th birthday of my buddy, Steve … but no planes were flying at that time and it was difficult to get into New York. He begged me to drive but it was just not worth it.

But in December, we had another affair to go to and this time air travel was a little bit easier, so we decided to go.

And drop by ground zero while we were there – photowalk with my friend Noel.

Here are the rest -
