Independence Day sail, Lake Michigan – July 4, 2008

The Chicago Skyline from Lake Michigan, south of the city
I joined this sunset sailing on Lake Michigan just because I wanted to take pictures of the city from the lake. A co-worker invited Ron and I to join her and her friends on her boat, the Sloop John B to see the fireworks displays in the different communities of Chicago along the lake and finally the big kahuna display at Navy Pier.

We started at the marina in Jackson Park in the South Side then sailed along S. Lakeshore drive just before the Museum Campus where we stopped to view the Navy Pier fireworks, and then traced the same route back. The fireworks were breath taking. Unfortunately, i don’t have any decent pictures of the fireworks as the water was a little bit choppy.

Downtown Chicago looks like an island from afar

Another sailboat that crossed our path

Ron, not much enjoying the choppy water

A shot of the fireworks at Grant Park and at Navy Pier

Another fireworks shot … didn’t realize that there were two fireworks shows that night!
These are the only two shots that were halfway decent.
